Who is eligible to submit an abstract for this event?
All UofT students, faculty, and alumni, regardless of department, are welcome to showcase their creative and innovative artworks!
Do I have to have a completed art piece to submit an abstract, or stick to what I said I was going to do for the abstract?
No, the abstract is just to provide an initial idea of your presentation. We understand that the creative process is dynamic, so you are not bound to the specifics of your abstract or required to have a finished piece before you submit an abstract.
What kind of art piece are you accepting?
We welcome all forms of art! We have two categories: digital (including photography, animations, digital art, etc.) to be presented on a TV display, and non-digital (including paintings, sculptures, embroidery, etc.)
Will we get recognition for attending and submitting an abstract for this event?
Participants who present their artwork will receive certificates in recognition of their valuable contribution to the event.
Can I submit a piece with a group?
Yes, you can collaborate and submit artwork as a group. The abstract form includes a section to list authors, where you can provide details about your collaborative effort.
I am not confident in my artistic abilities to translate my ideas. Is there a way I can have support for that?
Certainly! We’ve partnered with Biomedical Communication (BMC) students to assist applicants in bringing their ideas to life. Indicate your interest in working with a biomedical communications student, and upon acceptance of your abstract, we will provide you with a list of BMC students ready to assist. The BMC has designed the IMS Magazine and you can check out their work in our issues found here: https://imsmagazine.com/
I want to participate but have financial constraints in purchasing art equipment. Is there a way to get help?
Yes, we offer financial scholarships to help with the cost of art equipment or software. You can apply for this scholarship by indicating your interest in the submission form. Please note that there are a limited number of scholarships which will be awarded on a first-come first-serve basis, so apply now if you need support!
I would like to showcase my work at the event but I do not want to be included in the competition. Should I still submit an abstract?
Yes you should still submit an abstract. There is an option on the abstract submission form to choose whether or not you want to be included in the competition.
I do not want to present anything but I am interested in attending the event. Where can I register to attend?
Registration details will be announced soon! You can check back regularly or follow @IMSMagazine on X (Twitter) or Instagram for the announcement with details on how to register to attend the event.
